I'll always recommend the most secure option, which I currently believe to be protonmail, but pretty much anything is better than gmail. Just breaking up your data does a lot, even if you don't hide it. Even if another brand still does a lot of the same things, they don't also run your phone or PC, have location tracking, have your search and browsing history. If I haven't won you over to proton, I'll also say that anything other than google or microsoft is better. It's important to note that if the person you're emailing still uses google, they're still reading it, so the more people switch away the more secure everyone is. Personally since I'm working towards deleting all my (many, many) other email accounts, this isn't an issue for me as I can just use the proton app and therefore have that extra level of guarantee that my emails are being handled securely. The only real downside is that it doesn't easily sync into other email clients like thunderbird for desktop or the default mail app on iphone, it can be made to do so but there's a few steps in the process. The protonmail app is great, I've never had any issues with it (iOS) and i've heard much the same from android users. Protonmail also has a calendar and drive similar to google's, both still in development but looking like good offerings. The security features are the same no matter what tier because their priority is always being accessible by people like journalists, whistleblowers and other activists who need security and don't always have funds available. You can either have multiple accounts and switch like most people do with gmail, or you can pay for the higher tier (which I do, alongside their VPN) and get multiple email addresses that go to the same inbox. Protonmail is encrypted on the servers, meaning not only do they not read your emails, they can't even if they wanted to! Their emphasis is on privacy as the default, so they provide free, secure, private email to everyone. My top recommendation, which is my personal preference, and my everyday personal email provider, is protonmail. I absolutely can! Thank you for asking □ can/ you recommend better email providers? I need to change my email anyway so I might as well leave gmail
